Dear students,
As Istanbul Commerce University, we have been trying to offer solutions that will not make any student suffer since the start of the COVID-19 epidemic, which has affected the whole world. In our previous announcements, it was stated that some applied courses could not be conducted through distance education. However, since it is not possible to predict when the daily life will return to its normal course, the situation of these courses has been evaluated and the courses that can be given remotely have been determined. Since the courses are taught to a certain level before the transition to distance education and it cannot be predicted when the switch to face-to-face education will be possible, it has been decided to continue the courses as much as possible. Considering your feedback about the problems that may arise during the implementation of the applied courses, the following evaluation has been made:
IF THE APPLIED COURSES ARE TAKEN BY DISTANCE EDUCATION IN THE SPRING SEMESTER:
In this case, our students will be able to complete the course during the semester and will not be affected by the uncertainty about whether the epidemic will extend into the summer school period.
Our University and Departments will provide the necessary support to complete the applied courses remotely in a qualified manner. In addition, students who fail in distance education will have the right to take the course again in summer school. Otherwise, since the condition of taking the course once cannot be met, the course will not be taken in summer school.
IF THE STUDENT DROPS THE APPLIED COURSE:
Since the dropping process continues, applied courses that cannot be taken remotely can be dropped, but in this case; Due to the regulations, it is not possible to take the course in summer school. According to the Summer School Regulations of our school, the student can take the courses that he has been absent or unsuccessful in the previous semesters and that he has been successful before in order to raise his GPA.
If the course is dropped, the course can be taken irregularly with a one-term loss when the next academic year starts, or a regular two-semester loss can be taken a year later. In this case, the financial losses that may occur should also be taken into account.
IF APPLICABLE COURSES ARE NOT OPEN IN THE SPRING TERM AND LEFT TO THE SUMMER TERM:
The summer term starts in June. If the epidemic continues to this date, there is no guarantee that the lessons can be held face-to-face. In this case, there will be a loss of semester and it may be necessary to take the course remotely, despite the interruption. If the conditions improve, a dense and intensive teaching process is foreseen in order to catch up with the next academic year in terms of the academic calendar. In this case, financial losses due to period loss should be considered.
“REGISTRATION FREEZE” IN CASE OF TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT FAILURES AND IMPOSSIBILITIES:
Our students who wish will be able to take advantage of the registration freeze right granted by YÖK for the 2019-2020 Spring Semester with the letter dated 19.03.2020. However, it should be taken into account that in case of freezing a one-term registration, it will not be a possibility to benefit from the summer school, there will be a loss of semester and there will be a possibility of irregular status, especially in the prerequisite courses.
In line with the explanations above, students who want to withdraw from the course or freeze their registration must make a written notification to the Student Affairs Unit of the Administrative Office until 16:30 on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Students who will attend classes remotely do not need to make any notification.
