LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT

Department of Logistics Management

Dear Students, Logistics Management is a 4-year undergraduate program. The language of education is Turkish.

The aim of universities is to educate young people according to the requirements of the age and to equip them with different and superior qualifications. The Logistics Management program focuses on the students gaining the knowledge, skills and competencies sought by the logistics industry. The main purpose of the department is to train qualified human resources who can manage the processes and activities of both logistics enterprises and logistics departments in other enterprises.

What is Logistics Management?

Logistics is the process of transporting, storing and delivering raw materials, semi-products and end products from one point to another for the maintenance of life. “Logistics enterprises” or “logistics departments” of other enterprises perform a similar function to the blood circulation in the body.  Thanks to the function of circulation, transfer and supply, goods and services necessary for life are produced in factories and offered to people for consumption. A world without logistics is unimaginable. Logistics is the act of providing, procuring, making available, storing, shipping, transporting and making available to the end user for consumption. Logisticians transport goods and products, temporarily store and forward them from large warehouses to small warehouses, factories, wholesalers and retailers using land, air and sea transportation vehicles at the global level. They make short and long term transportation contracts. Their interests and reach are the whole world. With the liberalization of international trade, logistics has emerged as a growing and complex sector. The need for professionals and managers who will perform the large and continuous supply-transport function has increased. New professionals and managers today largely perform their tasks in digital environments.

Logistics Management is the process of delivering certain resources, whose properties are clearly defined, to the desired location, in the desired quality, on time and at an appropriate cost. In this process, there are multi-dimensional relationships, time planning, intense communication traffic, product and document control, monitoring, cost research and human resources management. Young people who graduate from the department become “process leaders” who manage and organize the supply chain.

Logistics Management Department curriculum has taken into account the acquisition of business life skills as well as contemporary theoretical knowledge. Graduates adapt without any difficulty when they enter business life through internships they perform during the education process. They gain the ability to manage logistics operations through Advisory Board meetings, conferences, workplace trainings and vocational seminars held during the training process.

Advantages of Logistics Management Department

Logistics Management Department students also have some special advantages. In accordance with the protocol signed by the university with KOSGEB, if they are successful in the “Entrepreneurship and Project Design” course in the curriculum, they are considered to have received “KOSGEB Entrepreneurship Training”. Thus, they will have the opportunity to benefit from government incentives and supports in the enterprises they will establish in the future. Another advantage is that they can have the Dangerous Goods Carrier Authorization Certificate. Successful students who take the relevant course start their career one step ahead of their competitors by having the certificate of carrier of dangerous goods.

Graduates who want to pursue their careers in the academic field or to have a high-level career opportunity can continue to the Logistics Management Master’s Program if they prefer.

Logistics students organize among themselves and participate in various club activities called “Logistics Community“. In this context, they invite businessmen who have proven themselves in the business world to the university, give them conferences, organize workplace trips, and take on roles and responsibilities with social responsibility organizations.

Internships and Workplace Training in Logistics Management

A 20-day summer internship is compulsory in the second and third years of the department. Apart from this, there is a 90-day Workplace Training application for students who prefer. These students evaluate their eighth semester education by working in their workplaces. Insurance under SSI is made by the university. Workplace training is carried out within the framework of protocols made with the leading logistics organizations of the sector. The beautiful aspect of this application is that students who do Workplace Training can find a job and be employed before they graduate. Career Planning Center (KAMER) regarding internship and workplace training helps our students.

What Do Logistics Management Graduates Do?

Graduates of the department can work in land, air and maritime transportation companies, warehouses and entrepots, customs businesses, and specialized import and export companies. In addition, they can find jobs in the purchasing, supply and distribution units of enterprises operating in the manufacturing and service sector. They work with the title of “expert” in the aforementioned institutions and organizations, gaining seniority over time and move to “management” positions.
