Istanbul Commerce University
Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at Istanbul Commerce University was established in 2003 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and began its educational activities in the Turkish language. The department admitted its first students in 2004 at the Üsküdar Campus and graduated its first students in 2008. In 2013, thanks to the investment made by our founding foundation, the department moved to the Sütlüce Campus, where it continues to provide education today.
Between 2014 and 2018, the department suspended new student admissions. Starting from 2019, it resumed admitting students under the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences. Since its establishment, the Department of Mathematics has continued its development with the contributions of many distinguished mathematicians who have served the department, and to date has awarded approximately 350 bachelor’s degrees.
As of 2025, the Department of Mathematics consists of 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors (doctor faculty members), and 2 research assistants. All courses are conducted meticulously by this qualified academic staff, with contributions from visiting faculty members when necessary.
The Department of Mathematics offers a contemporary curriculum covering the fields of algebra, analysis, geometry, probability/statistics, and applied mathematics. Through flexible elective courses and opportunities for double major and minor programs, students are able to receive an interdisciplinary education.
Students gain research experience at an early stage through seminars, guest speakers, project-based studies, exchange programs, and industry collaborations, and pursue careers in areas such as academia, finance, data science, software development, and education.
