Istanbul Commerce University
Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at Istanbul Commerce University aims to offer a distinguished education program that moves away from rote-learning approaches and places emphasis on inquisitive and research-oriented thinking.
During the first two years of the undergraduate mathematics program, theoretical and fundamental courses are offered in order to provide students with a solid mathematical foundation. In this way, students acquire essential academic skills such as mathematical thinking, expressing ideas clearly, conducting analysis, and developing proofs.
In the final two years of the program, in addition to theoretical and applied mathematics courses, elective courses are offered in various fields such as information technologies, banking, finance, and economics. Thus, students gain the qualifications either to enter professional life directly or to pursue academic careers in mathematics as well as in different disciplines such as economics and engineering.
Students of the Department of Mathematics are able to benefit from minor and double major programs during their education. In addition, thanks to Erasmus student exchange agreements established between our university and various higher education institutions in Europe, students are also offered the opportunity to gain academic experience abroad during their undergraduate studies. Depending on student demand, it is also possible to develop new international collaborations.
Students who complete their undergraduate education and wish to pursue an academic career in mathematics may apply to the master’s and doctoral programs offered under the Institute of Graduate Studies in Science.
Within the Department of Mathematics, 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors (doctor faculty members), and 1 research assistant are employed. All courses are conducted meticulously by this competent academic staff, with contributions from visiting faculty members when necessary.
The department provides an educational environment that prioritizes one-to-one interaction in classes conducted with a low number of students. In this way, students are able to maintain their academic development more effectively through close contact with faculty members and make their learning processes more efficient with individualized support.
Moreover, the Department of Mathematics adopts an educational approach that encourages and supports students in maximizing their academic potential.
Faculty members of the department contribute scientifically to various fields of mathematics through their publications in internationally respected academic journals indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E).
