The book “Dr. Sadık Ahmet and Minority Rights in the Minutes of the Greek Parliament,” prepared by academics from our university’s Department of Political Science and International Relations, has been published by Nobel Publishing House. The book was launched in the city of Gümülcine, Greece, as part of the 30th anniversary of Dr. Sadık Ahmet’s passing.

The book, titled “Dr. Sadık Ahmet and Minority Rights in the Minutes of the Greek Parliament,” written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur Yasin Asal, Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations (English) at our university, and Alper Uzunyol, a doctoral student in the Political Science and International Relations program, was published by Nobel Publishing House.

The book was written in memory of the 30th anniversary of Dr. Sadık Ahmet’s passing. The book launch was also held on July 24, 2025, in the city of Gümülcine, Greece, as part of the program commemorating the 30th anniversary of Dr. Sadık Ahmet’s passing. Representing the Republic of Türkiye at the commemoration program were Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Athens Çağatay Erciyes, Consul General in Gümülcine Aykut Ünal, members of parliament, mayors, and protocol members.

MINORITY RIGHTS EXPLAINED WITH DOCUMENTS
The work presents the rights of the Western Thrace Turkish minority as defined by the Treaty of Lausanne and the process by which these rights were defended in the Greek Parliament by Dr. Sadık Ahmet, the political leader and member of parliament of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, using official documents. The book objectively presents Dr. Sadık Ahmet’s parliamentary questions and letters to the Prime Minister and Ministers of Greece, along with the responses to them. In this respect, the book is the first of its kind and serves as an important resource on the political struggle of the Western Thrace Turkish minority.

AN INTERNATIONAL STRUGGLE
Dr. Sadık Ahmet brought the Western Thrace Turkish minority’s struggle for equality to the international arena, primarily through the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, and the United Nations, paying a heavy price in the process, including imprisonment. His struggle has been an important source of inspiration against discriminatory policies faced by the Turkish world and minorities.
