ÇANAKKALE, SYMBOL OF NATIONAL UNITY AND SOLIDARITY

In the first part of the program, which began with a moment of silence and the recitation of the Turkish National Anthem, Associate Professor Asal emphasized that the Battle of Çanakkale was not merely a military conflict, but also one of the cornerstones of the Republic of Türkiye. Stating that Çanakkale was an important war that changed the balance of world politics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asal said, “This victory is not only a military success, but also a historic turning point that strengthened national unity and solidarity.”

THE STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE OF THE GALLIPOLI FRONT

Noting that the Gallipoli Campaign was won with great sacrifice on the part of the Ottomans, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asal said, “The Turkish nation supported the front in this war not only with its soldiers but with all segments of the population.” Referring to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s leadership at the Anafartalar front, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asal said, “This war is also indicative of the kind of leader Atatürk would become in the years to come as he established the Republic of Türkiye.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asal stated that the spirit of Çanakkale formed the basis of the national struggle.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asal stated that this heroic epic should be kept alive not only through commemorative ceremonies but also through educational and cultural activities. “Çanakkale is not just a battlefield, but the place where the Turkish nation declared its independence to the whole world,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asal, adding that this awareness must be preserved. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asal concluded his speech by remembering all the martyrs who lost their lives in the Çanakkale Victory. In the second part of the program, a documentary about the Çanakkale epic was screened.
