While sociology emerged during the 19th century, it is on its way to becoming the scientific area of the century. It is certain that a great deal of importance is given to scientific studies carried out to capture and understand the rapid and dazzling changes in contemporary society and social events. In this framework, Sociology, which found its place in Turkey shortly after it emerged in France, has been situated among our universities’ leading departments.

The Department of Sociology, which exists within the structure of Istanbul Commerce University, not only deals with the fundamental issues of sociology within the framework of theoretical issues but also discusses the transformation process of Turkey’s social structure and emerging new social phenomena and includes practical studies in its research topics. Sociology Department, which gradually emphasizes the fieldwork studies, also continues to spread the “Applied Sociology” perspective to various areas (such as urban problems, migration, and cultural diversity) within its Master’s Program.
