Spring Conferences 5- Clothing in Anatolia

On May 8, 2024, a seminar titled “Clothing and Headgear in Anatolia” was held with Archaeologist Sabahattin Türkoğlu, one of the former Directors of Topkapı Palace Museum and Yıldız Palace Museum, within the scope of the Spring conferences. Türkoğlu first mentioned that it is necessary to have historical awareness and knowledge in order to design. He stated that the first people met their covering needs from animal hides, and later they obtained mat-like textile surfaces from plant shells and animal wool. He stated that some clothes, traditions and foods have continued since the Hittite, Phrygian and Ionian periods. He talked about textiles in Rome, Byzantium, Seljuk and Ottoman times. He stated that the titles used in Byzantium and Ottoman times were similar. He explained that European women used some details in their clothes inspired by the clothes of the Turks.
