Current Issues in Trade Finance Explored at International Trade Seminars

Department of International Trade and International Trade Student Society opened the seminar series with an event titled “Current Issues in Foreign Trade Financing ’ on 30 October 2024. At the seminar held at the University’s Sütlüce Campus, participants had the opportunity to listen to Dr Erhan Cahit Bahadır, Board Member of ECB Global A.Ş.

Dr Bahadır made a comprehensive presentation examining the changing outlook of global trade finance. He focused on critical issues such as financing mechanisms, risk assessment and strategies for structuring international trade transactions. The seminar addressed critical challenges in trade finance, providing participants with valuable insights and actionable strategies directly applicable to today’s dynamic global trade environment.

Seminar Highlights

  1. Overview of Global Trade Finance: Dr Bahadır provided a detailed overview of commodity flows between exporters and importers, emphasising the importance of effective documentation and logistics management.
  2. Risk Mitigation Strategies: The seminar shed light on the prominent risks in trade finance such as country risk, transport risk and currency fluctuations. Dr Bahadır underlined the importance of key risk mitigation measures, including the use of insurance policies and collateral agreements.
  3. Innovative Financing Solutions: There was a particular focus on advanced financing methods that play an important role in modern trade practices.
  4. Structuring Trade Transactions: The importance of maintaining control over goods, funds and documents throughout the trade cycle to ensure transaction security and efficiency was emphasised.

The seminar also included a Q&A session, allowing participants to discuss real-world applications of the insights shared during the event.

Aiming to be a Bridge between Academia and Industry

This event is part of the university’s broader initiative to provide students and professionals with actionable knowledge and build stronger links between academia and the global business sector. The programme concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Erhan Cahit Bahadır, followed by a group photo to commemorate the day.
