HISTORY

The Department of Finance and Banking at Istanbul Commerce University was established in 2004 under the name Department of Banking and Finance and began its educational activities as a 100% Turkish-medium program. Continuing its education and training activities at Istanbul Ticaret University’s Sütlüce Sâdâbâd Campus, the Department has developed since its establishment as an academic unit that trains qualified human resources in the fields of finance and banking.

From its establishment until 2015, the position of department chair was held by Prof. Dr. Ali Bülent Pamukçu. This period was marked by the formation of the Department’s institutional foundations, the shaping of its educational structure, and the steady continuation of its academic development.

In 2015, Prof. Dr. Esin Okay assumed the role of department chair. During this period, a significant change was made in the Department’s educational structure, and as of 2016, the program was transformed into one offering 30% English-medium instruction. This transformation contributed to the Department’s stronger alignment not only with national needs but also with international academic and sectoral developments.

In 2020, Prof. Dr. Serkan Çankaya was appointed as department chair. During this period, the Department’s orientation toward internationalization was further strengthened. In this context, in 2021, the Department was renamed the Department of Finance and Banking (English) and became a fully English-medium undergraduate program. This change represented an important development in terms of enabling the Department to respond more effectively to the expectations of the global financial world and equipping students with stronger competencies for international academic and professional environments.

Since November 2024, the position of department chair has been held by Prof. Dr. Hicabi Ersoy.
