The Sustainability Club of Istanbul Ticaret University, established under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr. Betül Gür, achieved a remarkable success by earning two first-place awards at the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Practical Week” event, hosted by the European Relations Club of Istanbul University on December 19, 2025.

As part of the event, student organizations from various universities participated in case study sessions where teams developed ideas, policy proposals, and solution frameworks aligned with global development objectives. During the event, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were assigned to participants through a lottery system. Each group addressed current social and economic challenges in line with their assigned SDGs and developed feasible, multi-stakeholder, and sustainable solutions. At the conclusion of the case study process, each team presented its set of solutions to the jury and was evaluated based on criteria of alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, feasibility, and strategic coherence.

Members of the Sustainability Club collaborated with students from Medipol University under the theme “SDG 1 – No Poverty,” and with students from Istanbul University under the theme “SDG 2 – Zero Hunger.” These comprehensive projects were recognized by the jury with a shared first-place award, in appreciation of their practical, inclusive, and multi-stakeholder approaches to addressing social challenges.

In the “SDG 1 – No Poverty” category, the team sharing first place included Sustainability Club Project Planning Committee member Beyza Nur Akpınar, while in the “SDG 2 – Zero Hunger” category, the team sharing first place included Sustainability Club Secretary General Eda Gülse Soylu, along with club members Kaan Mete and Merve Yalçın.

The presence of Istanbul Ticaret University Sustainability Club members in both winning categories served as a concrete demonstration of the club’s interdisciplinary approach and its strong capacity for producing field-oriented solutions. This double first-place achievement, as an outcome of the club’s practice-based initiatives, highlighted that our students are able to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals not only at a theoretical level, but also by developing feasible and defensible solutions.

We congratulate our students on this outstanding achievement and wish them continued success.

The Istanbul Ticaret University Economics Society is an active student organization that aims to bring together students interested in economics and the social sciences, supporting their academic and professional development. Through seminars, panels, workshops, and institutional visits, our society seeks to help students stay informed about current economic developments and prepare them to become well-equipped individuals for the professional world.

One of our most comprehensive events, the Economics Summit, is a large-scale and prestigious annual organization that brings together academics and industry representatives with students. By addressing current economic issues, the summit helps students broaden their perspectives and develop their professional vision.

The Economics Society provides a productive environment where students can apply their theoretical knowledge in practice and enhance their communication and leadership skills. We invite all new students to become part of this community that is open to learning, creating, and growing.
