The Department of Economics aims to raise individuals who are able to;

  • Have knowledge of the theoretical and philosophical infrastructure of economics,
  • Analyze the behavior of economic actors,
  • Read economic developments well and make economic analyzes with current technological tools and methods in order to direct them in today’s world where technological transformation is taking place at a dizzying pace,
  • Follow changes in micro and macroeconomic processes at national and international levels,
  • Interpret economic data,
  • Understand life better by establishing the relationship between economics and different branches of science such as politics, history, philosophy, law and sociology.

In order to achieve all these goals, it provides education within the framework of a curriculum that aims to equip its students with the quantitative and qualitative knowledge, skills and competencies required by the twenty-first century.

In the first two years of the four-year undergraduate education, courses containing basic information about economics are taken, and in the following years, courses such as econometrics, mathematics, statistics, research methods in social sciences, and courses such as political economy, economic history, economic sociology, which constitute the intersection of different dimensions of economics and other branches of science. is added.

As of 2022, within the scope of the A Program for Concentration in Artificial Intelligence in Social Systems and Processes project, with the addition of a series of courses such as artificial intelligence algorithms, programming, simulation paradigms, graduates will be able to study the digital transformation that emerged with the fourth industrial revolution. A rich and innovative curriculum has been created that provides high functional value and “problem solving” and “situation improvement” skills that will enable them to find a place for themselves in the world of the twenty-first century.

While updating the courses and course contents in the economics department curriculum, the recommendations of the department advisory board, consisting of experts from academics, private sector and public sector, and the opinions of department students are also taken into account.

Students of the Department of Economics, who reinforce their academic equipment by participating in the projects of research and application centers affiliated with the department and in academic and social responsibility activities organized by the student community of the department, thus have a high entrepreneurial capacity, are prone to group work, can produce and share common value, can develop projects, struggle with problems, and produce solutions. They grow up to be high individuals.

Economics department graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors. In financial institutions operating in the banking sector and capital markets such as banks, investment companies, stock exchanges; They can work as economists, analysts, brokers, bankers, inspectors, experts and managers in public institutions such as the Treasury, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF). They may also find the opportunity to work in international organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, etc. They can work in media organizations in areas such as economic journalism and economic programs. By completing the necessary training, they can become administrative judges and also serve in public bureaucracy such as district governors and governors.
