Communication is one of the most important and prominent branches of science today. Mass communication tools are rapidly developing, diversifying and increasing their influence and visibility in all areas of life with the impact of new technological developments. In this fast and complex process, the need for qualified education is increasing at the same rate.
In the light of this reality, Istanbul Commerce University Faculty of Communication, Department of Media and Communication aims to establish a systematic and strong connection between the present and the future with a unique approach and to provide its students with a strong theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills. Accordingly, a curriculum that will provide strong academic knowledge and experience in a spectrum ranging from traditional media to new media, which continues to develop rapidly by gaining a new dimension and content every day, is offered. The curriculum is also supported by an interdisciplinary approach, and it is envisaged to provide the theoretical knowledge of communication as well as the basic knowledge of social sciences and humanities. Thus, it is aimed to broaden the perspective of our students who choose the Department of Media and Communication, to strengthen their academic aspects, to equip them with broad horizons and the ability to look at the situations they encounter from different perspectives.
One of the main goals of our department is to provide a competent education in the field of applied communication. In this context, it is one of our main priorities to teach how to put the theoretical knowledge into practice in every field of applied communication from traditional media to new media. In order to realize this, our students are offered a wide range of opportunities. Under the roof of the Trade Communication and Media Center (TIMM), under the guidance of professors with industry experience, students are given the opportunity to practice with the support of a strong technical infrastructure ranging from advanced multi-camera studios to actual shooting camera sets, from digital radio studios to computer systems and desktop broadcasting where new media applications can be made. In this context, our students are encouraged to actively participate in a wide range of activities such as preparing television and radio programs, making new media applications, desktop publishing, etc., which will facilitate their entry and adaptation to the sector through practical training and voluntary participation.
Because our goal is to equip our students with theoretical and practical knowledge appropriate to the requirements of contemporary society and business life, to strengthen their cultural background, to provide them with the skills that will enable them to establish relationships with other sectors, to be self-confident and to assume a leadership role when they enter business life.
