The Department of Media and Communication within the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Ticaret University was established in 2001 by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Education and Social Services Foundation. The department, which was established under the name Media and Communication Systems, received its first students in 2001-2002. With the letter of the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education dated 13.02.2021 and numbered 75850160-101.03.01-E.11915, the language of instruction of the Media and Communication Program within the Faculty of Communication has changed from 30% English to Turkish as of the 2020-2021 academic year.
Istanbul Ticaret University Faculty of Communication, Department of Media and Communication is a unit that attaches importance to quality culture and institutionalization within the department. In this context, it adopts the systematic, inclusive and evidence-based process approach offered by the quality approach. Within the department, participation and transparency are taken as a basis in every process from the design of programs, education and training, measurement and evaluation, research and development, stakeholder relations and social contribution.
The Department of Media and Communication aims to establish a systematic and strong connection between the present and the future, and to provide its students with the ability to practice as well as contributing to the accumulation of a qualified theoretical knowledge. Accordingly, students are offered a curriculum that ranges from traditional media to new media, which continues to develop rapidly by gaining a new dimension and content every day. In this context, the curriculum is supported by an interdisciplinary approach, and in addition to the theoretical knowledge of communication, it is envisaged to gain the basic knowledge of social sciences and humanities, thus expanding the students’ perspectives on the field, strengthening their academic aspects, broadening their horizons, and equipping them with the ability to look at the situations they encounter from different perspectives.
