Istanbul Commerce University hosted the “One Goal: Zero Waste” event at Hezarfen Campus Küçükyalı, bringing together academics and students from various disciplines to explore sustainability through hands-on activities. The event addressed a wide range of topics, including recycling, upcycling, sustainable fashion, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible design practices. Participants had the opportunity to experience the culture of sustainable living through interdisciplinary collaboration and practical engagement.
Organized as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability, the event showcased innovative approaches to waste reduction, sustainable production, and eco-friendly design. Throughout the day, students actively participated in workshops, demonstrations, and seminars aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility and the principles of zero waste.

Led by the Faculty of Architecture and Design, the event featured contributions from academics representing different faculties and departments. Through a series of interactive activities, students gained firsthand experience in sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
Faculty members from the Department of Architecture introduced composting systems based on zero-waste principles. Participants explored practical methods for transforming organic waste into valuable resources and observed natural recycling processes that can be implemented in everyday life.
The Department of Industrial Design demonstrated innovative ways to repurpose plastic bottle caps, highlighting how discarded materials can be transformed into functional and creative design solutions. Students showed great interest in the applications presented during the workshop sessions.
Meanwhile, academics from the Department of Textile and Fashion Design conducted upcycling workshops where unused fabrics and textile materials were reimagined as original design products. These activities enabled students to experience sustainable fashion practices through hands-on learning while promoting the value of circular production models.

As part of the event, the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design organized a seminar featuring Necmi Çıran, Marketing and Human Resources Coordinator at Feltouch. In his presentation, titled “Sustainable Material Use in Interior Design: Acoustic PET Felt and the Feltouch Approach,” participants explored sustainable materials, recyclable surface applications, and environmentally conscious interior design solutions.
The Vocational School contributed to the program by providing information sessions on digital waste awareness. Faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering delivered presentations emphasizing resource efficiency, energy conservation, and zero-waste practices, highlighting the critical role of responsible consumption in achieving sustainability goals.

By bringing together diverse academic fields around a common environmental objective, the “One Goal: Zero Waste” event reinforced the integration of sustainability into campus life. The program served as a comprehensive reflection of Istanbul Commerce University’s commitment to environmental consciousness, sustainable production, and interdisciplinary cooperation in addressing contemporary ecological challenges.
