The Parliament Simulation, organized for the fifth time by Istanbul Commerce University Law Society, started at the Sütlüce Campus of our university. The opening ceremony of the Parliament Simulation, which will continue between 4-8 May, in which students studying at different universities take part as Members of Parliament, was attended by our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. İsrafil Kuralay, and our Rector, Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Avşar.
The Parliament Simulation, organized by Istanbul Ticaret University Law Society since 2019, started with a ceremony held at the Sütlüce Campus Conference Hall of our university. Speaking at the opening ceremony, our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Israel Kuralay expressed his happiness that the Turkish Grand National Assembly, where the will of our nation is manifested, is simulated at our university.
THE WORLD IS BIG ENOUGH FOR US ALL
Underlining that the Turkish Grand National Assembly has a century of experience, Kuralay reminded that our parliament is the only parliament in the world with the title of “Gazi”. Noting that our parliament once again became a “veteran” in the July 15 Coup Attempt, Kuralay stated that the value of our parliament should be known in order to prevent the same events from happening again. Dr. Israel Kuralay said: “We need to build a world where we can easily express our thoughts and build a common world together without compromising on being human. The world is big enough for all of us. There are sufficient resources, opportunities and possibilities for everyone. As long as we try to live together. We must develop the culture of speech without alienating or excluding each other. As children of a nation that has experienced the same processes for 1000 years, we must share our thoughts with love and respect. “I believe that this event today will be an important step in the advancement of our speech culture.”
THE ONLY PARLIAMENT WITH THE MISSION TO ESTABLISH THE STATE
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Avşar thanked the Law Society for organizing the program, congratulated those who contributed to the Parliament Simulation event, and gave important advice to young lawyers. Emphasizing that the Turkish Grand National Assembly has survived many difficulties such as coups and revolutions throughout history, Prof. Dr. Avşar said, “Turkish Grand National Assembly has achieved a first in history with its state-establishing parliamentary mission. Our Parliament played an important role in the conduct and management of the War of Independence, which was a major turning point in our nation’s history. As you know, the Turkish Grand National Assembly has passed many tests in our recent history. The most obvious example of this is the July 15 Coup Attempt… In this respect, I would like to state that the Turkish Grand National Assembly is the most important body representing the independence of our nation.” he said.
RESPECT FOR DIFFERENT OPINIONS IS IMPORTANT
Pointing out the importance of people with different views finding common ground and discussing civilly, Prof. Dr. Avşar said, “Being human; It means being able to think and express these thoughts freely. Every thought that cannot be shared grows in our mental world and turns into a volcano. Therefore, it is very valuable for you to be able to express your thoughts easily here. We attach great importance to the fact that this event combines theoretical education with practice. As Istanbul Ticaret University, our main goal is to present theory and practice together to our students.” he said.
INFORMATION IS MEANINGFUL WITH VALUES
Pointing out the importance of the values on which knowledge will be built, Avşar said, “As law students, the values on which you will build theoretical knowledge will enable you to be a good person in the future. In world history, we have witnessed how theories and ideas not based on human values brought destruction, as in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. As Istanbul Ticaret University, we take as our guide the values that will bring peace and happiness to all humanity, and we consider it our duty to base the theoretical knowledge we offer to our students on these values.” made his assessment.
PARLIAMENT SIMULATION IS HELD FOR THE 5TH TIME
Zeynep Özcan, Board Member of Istanbul Ticaret University Graduate Lawyers Association and former president of our Law Society, said: “One of the biggest factors in my success as a trainee lawyer who has just started my career is taking an active role in such events. “Taking an active role in programs such as parliament simulation during your student years will be a very important step in your career journey”. Emine Nur Bilgiç, Secretary General of the Association for Studies Based on Justice, Democracy and Law (ADHOC), who came to the podium after Özcan, said, “I wholeheartedly believe that the event, which was held for the 5th time this year, will be very productive this year, as every year”. The Parliament Simulation, which has been held continuously every year since 2019, will continue between 4-8 May. Students will experience the General Assembly of the Parliament, political party groups and Parliament Commissions during the event.
