GENERAL INFORMATION

The objective of the education in our English Preparatory Program is to provide our students with the competence to follow English courses and other learning activities in the undergraduate programs, to understand English academic articles, to contribute to the conferences, seminars and discussions in English, and to establish written and oral communication in English, which is necessary to succeed in academic and social life. In our Preparatory Program, need-based programs that are more compatible with the academic disciplines are developed and implemented for our students. The English Preparatory Program is compulsory for the students, who enroll to programs in which the medium of instruction is totally or partially in English. Our curriculum is designed as a transition from English for General Purposes (EGP) to English for Academic purposes (EAP). In the last module, ESP (English for Spesific Purposes) courses are also included in the curriculum. The language support given to our students continues in their faculties through vocational English courses.

An academic year in the English Preparatory Program consists of four modules: At the beginning of the academic year, students are placed into level groups A1, A2,B1 or B2 based on their scores in the placement test, and start education in English Preparatory Program.In order to complete the English Preparatory Program and start the undergraduate program, the students must successfully complete Level 4 or pass the Proficiency Exam. Students who pass the English Proficiency Exam prepared by the English Preparatory Program or the students who present their internationally valid language proficiency certificates accepted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) are exempted from the Preparatory Program.

Information about the modules is as follows;

A1+ A2 = 16 Weeks

A2 = 8 Weeks

B1 = 8 Weeks

B2 = 8 Weeks

As well as in-class activities, extracurricular projects are constantly applied and followed up.

Our students will be able to continue their general and professional English education throughout their undergraduate education, and after their undergraduate education, they will be able to reach the level of English required to complete national or international master’s and doctoral programs.

Istanbul Commerce University English Preparatory Program has the British “Pearson Assured” International Quality Accreditation, which is one of the most respected quality accreditation institutions in the world, and all students who successfully complete the English Preparatory Program are entitled to receive the internationally recognized “Pearson Assured” certificate.
