Within the scope of the Popular Mathematics Talk organized by the Department of Mathematics at Istanbul Commerce University, Prof. Dr. Oktay Veliev, a faculty member of Doğuş University, met with students and academics.
The talk titled “Different Infinities: The Most Surprising Truth of Mathematics” was held on April 15, 2026, at the Sütlüce Campus, Sâdâbâd Campus. During the event, the concept of infinity—one of the fundamental notions of mathematics—was discussed from various perspectives.
In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Oktay Veliev explained the differences between types of infinity through mathematical approaches and examples, offering participants an insightful perspective. Throughout the event, students had the opportunity to explore the impact of abstract mathematical concepts on our ways of thinking.
The program began with an opening speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Yener, Head of the Department of Mathematics at Istanbul Commerce University. The event concluded with the Rector of Istanbul Commerce University, Prof. Dr. Necip Şimşek, presenting a gift to the speaker, Prof. Dr. Oktay Veliev. The event, which attracted great interest from participants, ended with a question-and-answer session.
