Mr. Yerlikaya was born on October 11th, 1968 in Konya. He completed elementary school, middle school and high school in Konya. He graduated from the Department of Public Administration at Istanbul University Faculty of Political Sciences in 1989.
He started his career in 1990 at the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a District Governor candidate. In 1993, he was appointed as the District Governor of the Felahiye District of Kayseri Province. Subsequently, he served as the District Governor of Hilvan District of Şanlıurfa Province and Sarıkaya District of Yozgat Province, respectively. He was appointed as the Legal Counselor of the Ministry of Interior on May 29th, 2003 and as the General Manager of Personnel of the Ministry of Health on February 9th, 2004. He served as the Governor of Şırnak between December 13th, 2007 and May 17th, 2010, the Governor of Ağrı between May 23rd, 2010 and August 9th, 2012, the Governor of Tekirdağ between August 17th, 2013 and March 3rd, 2015, and the Governor of Gaziantep between March 5th, 2015 and November 3rd, 2018.
Mr. Yerlikaya has been appointed as the Governor of Istanbul with the Presidential Appointment Decision dated October 26th, 2018 and numbered 2018/202. He is married to Mrs. Hatice Nur and has four children.
