Our Cinema PhD program aims to contribute to the training of researchers who will enrich academic and non-academic research and intellectual discourse in the field, interpret and evaluate cinema within its historical context and future perspectives, propose alternative viewpoints, and produce works that enhance the field’s literature.
In this context, our PhD program seeks to provide the necessary academic foundation to deeply understand and critically examine the historical, technological, aesthetic, ethical, epistemological, ontological, social, and cultural dimensions of cinema. The program also addresses the questions posed by cinema while offering a critical perspective on the developmental processes of both world cinema and Turkish cinema history.
In this regard, our curriculum is designed to foster academics who are well-versed in the historical development of cinema, keep up with current trends, are open to innovation, and develop a critical vision for the future. It provides opportunities to explore research areas that allow for a comparative and holistic examination of cinema’s classical and digital eras.
The program offers a perspective that evaluates media platforms that emerged before and after cinema and their mutual interactions. In this context, our program necessitates a philosophical perspective capable of critically analyzing the transformation processes of traditional concepts, norms, values, and principles within the matrix of media tools, alongside cinema, with a future-oriented and holistic approach.
In any case, our program does not merely navigate the boundaries of interaction between different disciplines but goes beyond to emphasize approaches that explore the possibilities of transdisciplinary, holistic perspectives.
