Economics, in the post-industrial era where information plays a dominant role as a production factor, has brought significant changes to the definition and functions of an “economist.” In this new era, where information is produced, transmitted, and evaluated at an unprecedented speed, economists need to be equipped with theoretical and information-technological competencies to keep up with this pace.
Training economists capable of making rational and optimal decisions at the speed required by the information age will contribute to addressing the growing demand for qualified professionals in the Turkish economy in the coming years. In this context, a master’s program in economics that combines theory and practice while prioritizing information-technological competencies will play a functional and relevant role in the current economic environment.
Economics graduates will take their place among the skilled workforce in Turkey’s emerging economic fields, such as banking, capital markets, development and foreign trade policies, labor relations, and competitiveness. Beyond the private and public sectors, the opportunities provided by technology combined with analytical thinking will support the academic orientation of graduate students through contributions to scientific research.
With this purpose and approach, the Economics Master’s Program, which began admitting students in the 2013-2014 academic year under the Faculty of Business Administration at Istanbul Commerce University and within the Institute of Social Sciences, is expected to produce graduates who are respected and sought-after candidates for a wide range of job opportunities in both the private and public sectors.
