Announcement Regarding the 2nd Thesis Defense Process for the Spring Semester of the 2025–2026 Academic Year

Dear Students,

Students who will take the 2nd Thesis Defense Examination in the Spring Semester of the 2025–2026 Academic Year must submit the required forms to the Graduate School between May 18 and June 5, 2026, with the approval of their thesis advisors. In order to avoid any grievances or delays in the process, it is of utmost importance to pay close attention to the critical matters and the schedule.

Spring Semester Master’s and Ph.D. 2nd Thesis Defense Examination Dates: June 1 – 26, 2026

In order for the formatting check to be conducted and the similarity report to be obtained regarding your thesis, you must submit your thesis in Word format along with the Advisor Thesis Control Form (Form 11 for Master’s / Form 41 for Ph.D.) and the Publication Notification Form (Form 2) to the Thesis Control Unit, according to the program you are registered in. You can find the appropriate e-mail address for submission via the attached PDF file Program Distribution List.

Forms to be submitted to the Thesis Control Unit:

  • Advisor Thesis Control Form (Form 11 for Master’s / Form 41 for Ph.D.)
  • Publication Notification Form (Form 2)
  • Word Format of the Thesis

Publication Requirement and Required Documents

  • For Master’s students: A published or accepted conference paper related to their thesis, or a published/accepted article in a peer-reviewed journal is considered sufficient.
  • For Ph.D. students: Symposium or conference papers do not meet the publication requirement; a published or accepted article in a peer-reviewed journal is mandatory.

There are two distinct documents that must be submitted during this process and they should not be confused:

    1. Publication Notification Form (Form 2): The standard institute declaration form that must be filled out by the student and signed by the thesis advisor.
    2. Publication Acceptance Document: The actual article printout showing that the study has been published, or the officially signed official acceptance letter from the journal editor proving that the article will be published. (Submission of both documents to the Graduate School is mandatory.)

Similarity Rate (Plagiarism Report) Limits The total similarity rate in thesis studies must be a maximum of 20%, and the single-source similarity rate (excluding special analysis studies) must be a maximum of 2%. On the final plagiarism report to be submitted to the Graduate School, the main page showing the similarity rate must be signed by the thesis advisor. Due to the high volume of submissions that may occur at the end of the term, theses must be sent to the thesis control unit at least 2 weeks before the final submission deadline in order to ensure that the formatting and similarity check processes are completed on time.
