Application Guide to the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Unit

About Us

The Psychological Counseling and Guidance (PCG) Unit aims to support students in coping with and overcoming problems such as adaptation to university life, problems in interpersonal relationships, academic difficulties, career and future concerns, and other issues that are difficult to cope with, and to encourage them to benefit from psychological support and therapy services. The PCG Unit carries out group studies and workshops and conducts psychological tests in areas of need, and refers the applicants to a health institution if deemed necessary.

 

Application Process

  • Primarily undergraduate students, master’s and doctorate students and administrative staff can benefit from the PCG Unit.
  • Applications to the PCG Unit are made on a voluntary basis.
  • Students and employees who would like to benefit from the services provided by the PCG Unit can make an appointment by phone, by filling out the application form available on the website or by coming to the PCG Unit in person and filling out the application form they will be given by hand.
  • The date&time of the appointment is determined by the relevant specialist in accordance with the date&time requested in the application. The client is informed about any changes and updates made to the appointment date&time.
  • If the individual interview appointments are full, the client is placed on the waiting list and informed about the process.
  • Individual interviews are scheduled as one session in a week. Each session lasts 45 to 50 minutes. The frequency of the individual interviews is adjusted according to need.
  • Clients who will not be able to make it to their appointment should inform the relevant specialist at least 1 day in advance.
  • Any client that has missed his/her appointment twice in a row without informing the relevant specialist except for emergencies will be deemed to have waived his/her right to the time slot that has been reserved for him/her. Such clients will be put on the waiting list, were they to apply again.
  • In the event that the client is late for his/her appointment, the individual interview will be conducted in the remaining time. In case of delays exceeding twenty minutes, the appointment will be cancelled.
  • Delays caused by the relevant specialist will be compensated accordingly, depending on the reason for the delay.
  • Confidentiality is respected during the individual interviews, except in cases involving life-threatening situations such as harming oneself or another person.
  • Individual interviews may also be held online during periods where face-to-face interviews may not be held in person such as the pandemic period.
  • Clients can benefit from up to 12 individual interview sessions in an academic year. If deemed necessary, the time allocated to a specific client by the relevant specialist can be updated or such clients may be referred to a health institution.
  • It is free to benefit from the services provided by the PCG Unit.
