Uzbek Students In Turkey Celebrated The Language Festival

The Association of Uzbek Students in Turkey and the Universal Union of Youth of Uzbekistan held the ‘Language is the Pride of the Nation’ event exclusive to the 2nd year of the language festival at Istanbul Ticaret University.

Uzbeks living in Turkey celebrated their Language Festival yesterday. The ‘Language is the Pride of the Nation’ event organized by the Association of Uzbek Students in Turkey and the Universal Union of Youth of Uzbekistan was also supported by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul.

Uzbeks came together at Istanbul Ticaret University to celebrate the 2nd Language Festival this year. The event, within the scope of which poems, songs and national dances from the Uzbek culture were read, sung and performed, featured colorful moments. Secretary General of the Istanbul Consulate General Mr. Sherzod Abdunazarov, Istanbul Ticaret University Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, Demirören News Agency General Manager Mr. Celal Korkut and Uzbek Journalist Mr. Abdulkarim Mirzaev attended the program. More than 200 university students studying in Istanbul attended the program as well.

“IF TURKIC PEOPLE GET STRONG, SO WILL TURKEY”

Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, who stated that they were very happy to host the event, said that there are over a thousand foreign students in their university also including Uzbek students. Stating that he perceives peoples of Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Balkans as brothers, Prof. Dr. Oğurlu has said: “We speak the same language with Uzbeks. We have historical and geographical ties between us. We share a common history, culture, language and belief. Hence, strengthening of Uzbeks translates as Turkey’s strengthening, as well. Its language is the pride of a nation. Thus, we had celebrated our language by means of organizing this nice event.”

“WE WANTED TO SHOW THAT UZBEK LANGUAGE IS A ROOTED LANGUAGE”

Ms. Gulina Yusupova, who hosted the event, stated that she has been in Turkey for about seven years now. Expressing that she enjoyed the shows performed within the scope of the program very much, Ms. Yusupova said, “Within the scope of this event, we tried to show how deep-rooted the Uzbek language, which is one of the languages in the Turkic languages family, is. In this context, we sang the works of poets and writers that produced their works in the Uzbek language.”

Stating that she is happy to celebrate their Language Festival in Turkey, Ms. Yusupova said that they took Turkey as an example in the process of transitioning from the Cyrillic alphabet to the Latin alphabet.
