Our University Lecturer Prof. Dr. Mustafa Said Yazıcıoğlu Calls for a Common Conscience for Gaza

The 42nd General Assembly of IRCICA, affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, was held in Istanbul. Our University Lecturer Prof. Dr. Mustafa Said Yazıcıoğlu emphasized that the Islamic world must develop a common conscience and action plan at a time when war and humanitarian crises are taking place.

The 42nd General Assembly of the Islamic Research Center for History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), which operates within the International Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), was held in Istanbul. Prof Dr. Mustafa Said Yazıcıoğlu, a lecturer of our University and IRCICA Board Member, who attended the General Assembly on behalf of Turkey, delivered a speech with important messages.

CRISES IN GAZA AND THE REGION ARE ON THE AGENDA

Prof. Dr. Yazıcıoğlu pointed in his speech out the difficulty of expressing the dimensions of the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and criticized the inaction of the international community towards this situation. Prof. Dr. Yazıcıoğlu emphasized that the humanitarian crises in the region necessitate the Islamic world to act with a common conscience and will.

“THE WORLD IS BIGGER THAN FIVE” EMPHASIS

Drawing attention to the ineffectiveness of the current structure of the United Nations, Prof. Dr. Yazıcıoğlu recalled the “World is bigger than five” approach expressed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and stated that this understanding should be brought to the agenda more frequently by all countries. Stating that there is no point in expecting a solution from Western countries, Prof. Dr. Yazıcıoğlu said that it was a historical responsibility for Islamic countries to take a more active role in the international arena.

THE EMPHASIS ON SYRIA AND LASTING PEACE

Referring to Syria in his speech, Prof. Dr. Yazıcıoğlu emphasized the importance of closely following the developments in this country, protecting its territorial integrity and increasing joint efforts to achieve a lasting peace.

DOCUMENTARY PROPOSAL FOR GAZA

Yazıcıoğlu stated that IRCICA continues to work successfully even in the current complex international environment and suggested that a documentary should be prepared in order not to forget the humanitarian crises in Gaza. Prof. Dr. Yazıcıoğlu stated that this documentary will be of great importance both in terms of leaving a note in history and creating a document that can be used as a reference in the future.

IRCICA’S WORKS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ISLAMIC WORLD

Touching on the importance of IRCICA in terms of its mission in the international arena, Prof. Dr. Yazıcıoğlu stated that the center successfully fulfilled the duties it undertook with its expert team. The 42nd General Assembly concluded with calls for cooperation and solidarity to solve regional and global problems.
