In recent years, there has been a huge increase in the number of data, data variety and data flow rate in the world. Today, the number of data collected is increasing so rapidly that 90% of the data collected in the world, according to the researches, have been collected in the last two years. It is predicted that this data number, data diversity and data flow acceleration will continue to increase in the future. Parallel to this, by analyzing the collected data, it will further increase the need for a human resource, ie a statistician, who will convert data into information, and information into value (data is predicted to be the currency of the future).

According to the research conducted by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2016, in the next decade, many business lines will need manpower with good statistical knowledge. In the same research, the best future business opportunities are expected to be positive for those with qualitative and quantitative data analysis knowledge, and according to the projection, statistician employment is predicted to increase by 34% by 2026. This rate is a very high rate of increase in employment compared to the employment growth rates in other occupational groups. The fact that the statistics profession is always at the top of top 5 in the “Best Professions” list announced every year in the United States is perceived as an indicator that the importance of statistics will increase even more in the future. However, it is predicted that 85% of companies will use big data analytics (statistical analysis) by 2022 in the report named “Future of Jobs Report 2018” of the World Economic Forum. These studies show that there will be more need for educated manpower who knows statistics in the future. In addition, the YÖK ( Council of Higher Education)  Quality Commission predicted that statistics and mathematics will gain more importance in the future and recommends that these areas should be emphasized.
