Department History
Established in 2001, the Department of Statistics at Istanbul Ticaret University is one of the seven programs under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Our university holds the unique distinction of being the only foundation university in Turkey offering a Statistics program.
Our mission is to provide an education that integrates the science of statistics with scientific principles and ethical values. We aim to cultivate professionals with strong analytical thinking skills who can make data-driven decisions and develop statistical solutions that benefit both the public and private sectors. Our goal is to produce graduates who lead in the fields of statistics and data science, offering solutions to societal and business challenges through scientific research and making a difference at the international level.
Our Academic Staff: Our department consists of a distinguished academic team comprising 3 professors, 1 associate professor, 1 assistant professor, and 2 research assistants. Alongside conducting national and international scientific studies, the department has established a significant reputation among statistics departments in Turkey through its practice-oriented curriculum and the professional success of its graduates.
Curriculum and Educational Content: Our curriculum includes core courses in statistics, operations research, and econometrics, alongside mandatory and elective courses designed to provide an interdisciplinary perspective. These include subjects related to statistical software, economics, business, finance, marketing, and sociology. We continuously update our program in line with global developments in the field of statistics.
Graduates and Employment Opportunities: Since its establishment, our department has produced numerous academics while many of our graduates have continued their studies in our university’s postgraduate programs. Our alumni are employed in prominent national and international companies across various industries and hold key positions in both public and private sectors. Graduates of our department have extensive employment opportunities, which are expected to grow even further in the future.
