12. Fundamentals of Islamic Finance Conference was held

12. The face-to-face sessions of the Foundations of Islamic Finance Conference (FIFC) 2022 started at Istanbul Commerce University. The conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, Rector of Istanbul Commerce University, Prof. Dr. Elçin Aykaç Alp, Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Ömer Torlak, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Necdet Şensoy, Director of the Islamic Economics and Economic Systems Application and Research Center, Prof. Mohamed Ariff Syed Mohamed, Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, and an audience of academics and students.
Organized by Istanbul Commerce University, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Sunway University (Malaysia), La Trobe University (Australia) and Universitas Indonesia (Indonesia), the conference was supported by CFA Society Malaysia and Emerald Publishing Limited.
This year, the conference was organized under the theme of Green Finance and Islamic Finance.
Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu, who made a speech at the opening of the conference, stated that they are happy that Istanbul Commerce University is the organizer of such an important conference and said that the world now needs a new economic system and the most important of these alternatives is Islamic economics.
Underlining that Islamic economics has now become an important discipline worldwide, Prof. Dr. Oğurlu added that while academic studies in this field were very few 20-30 years ago, today undergraduate and graduate departments have been opened in universities, which is a very pleasing development.
Prof. Dr. Oğurlu also commemorated our academic Prof. Dr. Yusuf Tuna, who passed away the previous day, and wished God’s mercy on him and condolences to his family and loved ones.
Prof. Necdet Şensoy Dr. then took the floor and gave information about the conference and noted that the event, organized for the 12th time, has become an important event in this field. Prof. Mohamed Ariff Syed Mohamed, Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, underlined the importance of Islamic economics and gave information about Green Finance and sustainability Prof. Mohamed Ariff Syed Mohamed concluded by thanking the universities and institutions that supported the conference.
Following the opening speeches, Ayşe Nazlıca, Sustainability Coordinator at Industrial Development Bank of Turkey, and Dr. Tarık Akın, Head of Participation Finance Department at the Presidential Finance Office, made presentations. After the presentations, the first day sessions of the conference started. The second day sessions of the conference will continue on Sunday, October 9th at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.
