Artist Mr. Ferruh Sünger’s charcoal drawing exhibition “Istanbul with Embroidery on Stones” met with art lovers at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) Yeni Mosque Hünkar Pavilion.
Istanbul Ticaret University Rector Prof. Dr. Abdülhamit Avşar, Member of the ITO Board of Directors Mr. Murat Hazratoğlu and Members of the ITO Assembly Council as well as many art lovers attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Member of the ITO Board of Directors Mr. Hazratoğlu stated that they are happy to support art and artists and add value to art with unique perspectives, and said: “In order to carry our cultural heritage to the future, we continue to hold our art events at Yeni Mosque Hünkar Pavilion and support our artists with the inspiration we receive from the past.”
“We will have the opportunity to see the axis of the embroideries up close”
Mr. Hazratoğlu pointed out that Mr. Ferruh Sünger is an artist working on embroideries and said: “In our exhibition titled ‘Istanbul with Embroidery on Stones’, we will have the opportunity to see closely how the embroideries are reflected in public fountains, mosque balconies, tombstones, inns and palaces.” Mr. Hazratoğlu indicated that the artist presented a different and original perspective by combining these beautiful motifs and embroidery with charcoal art, and continued his speech as follows: “I hope you will like and appreciate this valuable exhibition, which includes 39 charcoal drawings.” Mr. Haziroglu also noted that Palestinians, most of whom are women and children, have been deprived of their right to live, which is a universal right, and that he hopes that the massacre in Gaza, where Israel has been attacking for 160 days, will end as soon as possible.
“Historical places of Istanbul combined with charcoal art”
Artist Mr. Ferruh Sünger, on the other hand, said that he undertook such a work to combine the historical places of Istanbul with the art of charcoal drawing and to bring the arts of stonemasonry and ornamentation to art lovers. Stating that the exhibition was created as a result of exhausting work, Mr. Sünger said: “In this exhibition, I basically tried to bring our culture together with art lovers and to introduce them to the art of ornamentation, which is a part of our culture, and I used the art of charcoal drawing in this.” The exhibition, which includes 39 works, where the charcoal pencils, brushes and tools used in the preparation of the works are also displayed, can be visited until March 31st.
