One of the doyens of Turkish industry, Dr. Hasan Büyükdede gave golden advice to the students. Dr. Büyükdede said, “If we, as the big Turkish industry, cannot follow the daily changing technologies and change ourselves in this competition, we cannot take part in this competition and they will erase us. “We now need to teach our universities and young people to think product-oriented.”
Former Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saha Istanbul and founder of Hidromode A.Ş. Founder Dr. Hasan Büyükdede participated in the Science and Technology Talks event organized by Istanbul Commerce University Faculty of Engineering. Dr. Israfil Kuralay, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Commerce University, Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Avşar, Rector of Istanbul Commerce University, Mehmet Hakan Hocaoğlu, Vice Rector of Istanbul Commerce University, Prof. Dr. Erdal Cesar, Secretary General of Istanbul Commerce University, academicians and students attended the event titled ‘Cannot Compete Without Technology’ held at Istanbul Commerce University Küçükyalı Campus Conference Hall.
In his opening speech, Dr. Israfil Kuralay stating that Dr. Hasan Büyükdede’s life was always spent struggling and running, he stated that he was the pioneer, supporter and executor of very valuable projects in Turkey’s industry. Noting that they made great efforts in the foundation of Istanbul Commerce University, Dr. Kuralay, said that Dr. Büyükdede was among the rare people who transformed his knowledge into technology.
Dr. Kuralay explained that if young friends want to see a good example, they should take Hasan Büyükdede as an example.
“IF WE CANNOT FOLLOW DAILY CHANGE TECHNOLOGIES, WE WILL BE DELETED FROM THE MARKET”
Dr. Hasan Büyükdede started his speech by stating that the university is one of the rarest universities in Turkey and gave golden advice to the students. Dr. Büyükdede told the students that they will be engineers in the future and gave answers to the questions of what is competition and what is access to information?
Underlining that the biggest problem in the world today is competition due to easy access to every part of the world, Dr. Büyükdede said, “If we, as the big Turkish industry, cannot follow the daily changing technologies and change ourselves in this competition, we cannot take part in this competition and they will erase us.”
“IF YOU CANNOT SELL AT A COMPETITIVE PRICE, YOU ARE NOT IN THE MARKET”
Dr. Hasan Büyükdede noted that with the speed of communication and technology being so fast in the competitive environment of the world, our engineers and enterprises should come to a point where they can compete with the world and said, “The main thing is that the final product that can be competitive, saleable, and meets the necessary and sufficient conditions is the king. Whether you make a refrigerator or an automobile, if you cannot sell the product you produce at a competitive price, you are not in the market. For this reason, you need to know the world at a technological level and produce competitive products. The quality of the products determines their value in the market. Therefore, the materials and equipment you use determine your quality,” he said.
Emphasizing that young people must have the ability to produce the largest amount of products with the fastest production techniques in order to compete in today’s conditions, Dr. Büyükdede said, “If you still produce with old type lathes and old type welding types, companies producing with new technology will close your market. “Young people have an obligation to know the fastest production techniques.”
HOW DID CHINA MANAGE TO COMPETE?
Stating that China is abnormally competitive in the world today, Dr. Hasan Büyükdede said, “It is not the cheapness of its workers that enables it to compete, but the fact that the production techniques it uses have become very fast.
“We created the design of the machines we produce over 50 years,” said Dr. Büyükdede noted that currently young people can find information in the digital world in a very short time and said, “They can access technology in different countries of the world via the internet in a few minutes. “This is an advantage for them.”
ADVICE TO UNIVERSITIES AND STUDENTS
Dr. Hasan Büyükdede, who gave important advice to the students at the end of the event, concluded his words with the following statements: “Software is now a world in itself. Before software, we must come to a very important point about the algorithm. You must first define the work you will do well. We now need to teach our universities and young people to think product-oriented. As I said before, we need to teach from the very beginning that the end product is king. “You can produce anything, but if you produce it too expensively and if you do not produce it competitively, your product will be wasted.”
At the end of the event, Dr. Israfil Kuralay and Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Avşar thanked Dr. Hasan Büyükdede for his participation and presented a gift.
