First Class was held on Metaverse Platform in SAPTEY

At Istanbul Ticaret University Institute of Social Sciences, we continue to adopt “futuristic” approaches in the Master’s and Doctorate programs under the Industrial Policies and Technology Management Department, the short name of which is SAPTEY. In this context, the “Data Analysis and Big Data Management” class included in the 2021-22 Spring semester SAPTEY Doctorate Program was held on the metaverse platform with the participation of the students. Head of the Industrial Policies and Technology Management Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabri ÖZ, stated that in this way the students get the opportunity to experience the pros and cons of the metaverse first hand in SAPTEY in addition to being part of the theoretical discussions held about the different dimensions of the issue. Dr. Öz stated that it was exciting to see that students from various places around the world including Germany, Dubai, Ankara, Kayseri and Tekirdağ participated in the class with their “avatars”. In the last part of the 120-minute class, the students moved to a different portal (universe) with their avatars to visit a gallery. At the end of the class, Dr. Öz underlined that the duty of Industrial Policies and Technology Management students is to research and discuss the ways of being a producer and not a consumer in the platforms, infrastructures, software and graphic designs of metaverse and similar structures. Having given the good news that another folder, which will include scientific studies that address the issue in all aspects, will be created in the SAPTEY resource library under the category of Metaverse in the coming days, Dr. Öz stated that they will have new experiences and conduct more studies in the field metaverse, particularly in the field of NFT (non-fungible token), together with SAPTEY students.
