Our Campuses Take Their Names From History

Historical names for our campuses

The Board of Trustees of Istanbul Commerce University has made an important decision to name our Sütlüce, Küçükyalı, and Eminönü campuses after figures who embody the values of our deep-rooted civilization. From now on, our university’s three campuses will be referred to as Sâdâbâd Campus Sütlüce, Ahî Çelebi Campus Eminönü, and Hezarfen Campus Küçükyalı in all correspondence and announcements.

Istanbul Commerce University has implemented a new decision that pays tribute to Istanbul’s ancient civilization. Under the decision taken by our Board of Trustees, the names of our campuses have been redefined with historical, cultural, and scientific symbols. In this context, our Sütlüce campus has been named Sâdâbâd Campus Sütlüce, our Eminönü campus has been named Ahî Çelebi Campus Eminönü, and our Küçükyalı campus has been named Hezarfen Campus Küçükyalı.

Sâdâbâd Campus Sütlüce: A Place Where History, Nature, and Aesthetics Meet

“Sâdâbâd” left a deep mark on Istanbul’s cultural history as a recreational area adorned with palaces, pavilions, mansions, and gardens on the banks of the Kâğıthane Stream, which flows into the Golden Horn, in the first half of the 18th century. This name, meaning “auspicious, prosperous place,” is a symbol of elegance, art, and social life. Giving this name to our university’s central campus, Sâdâbâd Campus Sütlüce, aims to give the place a new meaning that combines its historical fabric with the energy of science, art, and youth.

Ahî Çelebi Campus Eminönü: In the Footsteps of Science, Healing, and Ethics

Ahî Çelebi, one of the important figures in Ottoman medical history, was a Turkish physician who served as chief physician during the reigns of Fatih Sultan Mehmed, Bayezid II, and Yavuz Sultan Selim. Ahî Çelebi, who blended his medical knowledge with moral values, was also a philanthropist who built educational institutions and mosques in Istanbul and Edirne. Ahî Çelebi Campus Eminönü, the new name of our Eminönü campus, aims to perpetuate this wise figure’s understanding of service to both science and humanity. Located in the heart of the historic peninsula, this campus aims to provide its students not only with knowledge but also with a value system that puts people at its center.

Hezarfen Campus Küçükyalı: Symbol of Innovation and Courage

The word “Hezarfen” is a combination of the Persian word ‘hezar’ (thousand) and the Arabic word “fen” (science, skill). It means “a person who possesses a thousand sciences,” that is, “a versatile person with extensive knowledge and skills in different disciplines.” Hezarfen Ahmed Çelebi, the symbol of this concept, is known for the legend that he flew from Galata Tower to Üsküdar in the 17th century using wings he developed himself. Hezarfen Campus Küçükyalı reflects this spirit, representing an educational approach centered on science, innovation, and productivity. Through this campus, our university offers a vision that carries its students into the future in the fields of computer technology, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
