‘Retail Trade Training’ organized by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) in cooperation with Istanbul Ticaret University Continuing Education Center (SEM) has come to an end. Trainees who successfully completed the training were awarded their certificates at a ceremony held at ITO’s Eminönü campus.
The trainings carried out by ITO in cooperation with Istanbul Ticaret University Continuing Education Center (SEM) met with great demand from the sector. A certificate awarding ceremony was held at the headquarters of ITO for those who successfully completed this training, attended by managers who want to specialize in the retail trade sector. The ceremony was attended by ITO Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Ahmet Özer, Istanbul Ticaret University Rector Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Avşar, Istanbul Ticaret University Continuing Education Center Director Dr. Osman Altay, and Chairman of Retail Trade Commission No. 1 of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Mr. Yavuz Altun.
Making a speech at the ceremony, ITO Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Ahmet Özer said, “Knowing and applying technology and new approaches has a very important role in the retail trade sector. We find the 140 hours of retail trade training given in cooperation with ITO and Istanbul Ticaret University to be very important in terms of catching up with current approaches and technology. A very comprehensive training was given in terms of both theory and practice in the fields of marketing, purchasing, leadership, operations management, data analytics and category management.”
Emphasizing that the training was also important in terms of social interaction, Mr. Özer concluded his speech as follows: “Bringing together managers from the sector is one of the indicators that this training is successful. I congratulate all our valuable students who are entitled to receive their certificates and wish them continued success. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the preparation of this training.”
Rector of Istanbul Ticaret University Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Avşar also made a speech at the ceremony. Emphasizing the importance of the retail trade sector with data in his speech, Prof. Dr. Avşar said, “The retail trade sector has a very important place for our country’s economy both in terms of its function and size in commercial life. Of the 3.6 million total businesses in our country, 2.3 million are in the retail trade sector. We are talking about a sector with more than 10 million employees, which corresponds to 58 percent of the total number of employees involved in our country’s commercial life. The importance of the retail trade sector becomes clearer when we consider that the retail sector alone accounts for 70 percent of the total turnover of our country’s commercial life. Recent important developments such as the advancement of technology, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, digital communication technologies and many other factors directly affect the retail trade sector. Therefore, qualified human resources are needed to keep up with these rapid developments. Taking these issues into consideration, we prepared 140 hours of training in cooperation with Istanbul Ticaret University and ITO. This training was prepared with the contribution of many academicians as well as employees from the retail trade sector. Hence, this training involves a very comprehensive academic and sectoral experience transfer. The training covers areas such as management, organization, financial management and product management in the retail trade sector. I would like to express that we are happy to be here today with you, the valuable participants who have successfully completed this training. I believe that you will remember both our Chamber and our University with happiness and praise as you climb up the career ladder.”
Chairman of Retail Trade Commission No. 1 of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce Mr. Yavuz Altun said, “ITO created the retail trade training representing 23,500 companies. A significant part of Türkiye’s economy took part in our relevant committee. ‘You are what you think, you are what you do,’ said the ancients. Our participants gained information in this training, and the personal development activities that will follow the training will be the source of power for the actions to be taken. In this training, you turned knowledge into action. Aristotle said ‘perfection is not an action, but a behavior’. After this stage, you need to turn knowledge into behavior and create team spirit and stability so that you can achieve success. Each of you made a great effort, spent time, worked hard, and took part in this training. For this reason, I would like to thank you especially for your efforts and congratulate you. I wish all our participants continued success in their future lives.”
After the speeches, the certificate awarding ceremony took place. Certificates of achievement were awarded to the participants by Vice Chairman of ITO Board of Directors Mr. Ahmet Özer and Istanbul Ticaret University Rector Prof. Dr. Abdulhamit Avşar.
