Our university’s Mathematics Society organized an event as part of World Pi Day on March 14. Presentations on the mathematical significance and historical development of pi were discussed in a scientific context with contributions from academics and students.
Our university’s Mathematics Society organized a special event as part of World Pi Day on March 14. At the event held in the E502 hall, our Rector Prof. Dr. Necip Şimşek, academics, and students gathered to deliver various speeches on the place and importance of Pi in mathematics.

IMPORTANT STATEMENTS FROM OUR RECTOR ON THE MYSTERY OF PI
Delivering the opening speech of the event, our Rector Prof. Dr. Necip Şimşek emphasized that Pi is one of the most special and mysterious numbers in mathematics. Our Rector stated that Pi, an irrational number, mysteriously extends to infinity and does not contain a repeating pattern, and also provided information about the number of digits calculated to date.

INSIGHTS ON THE HISTORY OF PI FROM HEAD OF THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT, PROF. DR. DOĞAN KAYA
In his speech at the event, Head of the Mathematics Department Prof. Dr. Dr. Doğan Kaya discussed the historical development of the number Pi. Prof. Dr. Kaya explained how this special number, known as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, was calculated from ancient times to the present and how different civilizations made use of Pi.

STUDENTS’ PRESENTATIONS HIGHLIGHTED THE ROLE OF PI IN MATHEMATICS
During the event, students from the Mathematics Department gave special presentations on the number Pi. Presentations covered mathematical equations involving Pi, how different societies assign different values to Pi, and interesting aspects of this number. Additionally, in-depth information about mathematics was shared through interviews conducted by department faculty members and community advisor Dr. Lect. Elif Nuray Yıldırım.
SPECIAL MATHEMATICS WORKSHOP ORGANIZED FOR STUDENTS OF MARTYR TEACHER NEŞE ALTEN MIDDLE SCHOOL
In the second part of the event, students from Martyr Teacher Neşe Alten Middle School participated in a special workshop prepared by the Mathematics Club. Students had a fun and educational experience with math games, model-making activities, and educational materials. At the end of the event, a film screening was held with the visiting students.
