Smart Economic Planning And Industrial Policy (SEPIP’2022) Conference Held

The Smart Economic Planning and Industrial Policy (SEPIP) Conference, which was organized by Istanbul Commerce University Industrial Policy and Development Center until 2019, hosted by OSTIM Technical University since 2019 and under the auspices of OSTIM Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Murat YÜLEK, was held on 10-11 October 2022 with online and face-to-face sessions.
As in previous years, our University took part in this year’s Conference as a stakeholder under the leadership of the Industrial Policy and Development Center. The Conference, in which important national and international institutions such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development UNCTAD, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Universita Degli Studi Di Parma and Universidad Nacional de San Martin and various universities in Europe were also stakeholders, ended after two days of intensive program.
At this year’s conference, organized with the main theme of “Manufacturing Industry in the age of Tesla and Alexa”, panels were held within the framework of geopolitical uncertainties and industry, geopolitical risks, new productivity links between industry and high-tech services, movements in global energy prices and energy supply and their effects on industrial policies, industrial policies and global supply disruptions, industrial policy for green development, political economy of industrialization, sustainable industrial development, the effects of the main choices of macroeconomic policy of countries on the industrialization process, early deindustrialization in the world.
In addition to Turkey, many speakers from Japan, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Australia, Italy and Argentina attended the conference.
In SEPIP 2022, where Prof. Dr. Betül GÜR, Director of the Industrial Policy and Development Center, Prof. Dr. Yusuf BALCI, Faculty Member of the Department of Economics, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabri ÖZ, Head of the Department of Industrial Policy and Technology Management, took part as members of the scientific board, a panel session was held with the participation of faculty members and doctoral students of our University.
The main theme of the panel moderated by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Elçin AYKAÇ ALP was “Technological and Digital Transformation”. Prof. Dr. İsmail EKMEKÇİ, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering, Prof. Dr. İsmail EKMEKÇİ, “digital transformation in energy efficiency”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabri ÖZ, Head of the Department of Industrial Policy and Technology Management, “chip crisis and sectoral and regional reflections”, and Selçuk BAYER, one of our Industrial Policy and Technology Management PhD students, “digital transformation in the health sector” took part in the panel with their speeches.
